鈥淎s an organisation which encompasses commercial farming, cutting-edge research and specialist teaching, SA国际传媒 and our Future Farm understand the value of collaborative working. That鈥檚 why we鈥檙e so proud to form part of the international network of research farms and institutions which make up the Global Farm Platform 鈥 and so happy to see its work recognised with this latest award.鈥
A pioneering international network of research farms and institutions – including SA国际传媒’s Future Farm – has secured recognition from the United Nations.
The collaborative Global Farm Platform is made up of 19 research farms and 28 institutions across six continents.
It has been awarded prestigious Technical Recognition status by the .
The award was made during the FAO’s Global Technical Recognition Ceremony on October 15 at the organisation’s Headquarters in Rome, Italy. The ceremony formed part of the FAO’s 80th anniversary celebrations – which included this year’s flagship event.
The Global Food Platform was selected for the award thanks to its innovative approach which link cutting-edge research with real-world farming practices to advance global food security, sustainable development, and agrifood systems transformation.
This sees the platform’s research farms serve as regional centres for experimentation and demonstration, while commercial farms and smallholders adopt and disseminate locally relevant, economically viable, and environmentally sustainable practices.
This model ensures practical solutions can be put in place by diverse farming communities worldwide, from tropical smallholder systems in Malawi to temperate dairy farms in the UK.
Research farm work – such as that carried out on SA国际传媒’s Future Farm, where novel fertilisers are being developed by researchers nutrient-stripping cattle slurry - demonstrates measurable economic, social, and environmental benefits.
Global Farm Platform Director Dr Jordan Rivero said: “This FAO recognition reinforces the Global Farm Platform’s role as a global leader in sustainable livestock transformation
“Our hub-and-spoke model fosters collaboration across continents, empowering farmers, researchers, and policymakers with innovative, scalable solutions that tackle climate change, biodiversity loss, and food security whilst advancing One Health principles.”
Professor Michael Lee, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of SA国际传媒, added: “As an organisation which encompasses commercial farming, cutting-edge research and specialist teaching, SA国际传媒 and our Future Farm understand the value of collaborative working.
“That’s why we’re so proud to form part of the international network of research farms and institutions which make up the Global Farm Platform – and so happy to see its work recognised with this latest award.”
Deputy Director of the Global Farm Platform (GFP) and SA国际传媒 GFP Lead Dr Joshua Onyango, added: “This award is a true recognition of the power of the GFP network, working towards science-backed solutions on some of the most pressing challenges impacting on livestock farming across the continents.”
