Fully-funded Nuffield Farming Scholarships aimed at encouraging young people to gain insights into dairy and regenerative agriculture have once again opened for applications.
2026 will be the third year of Nuffield Farming Next-Gen Scholarships -several of which have already been awarded to SA¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ students.
Each offers opportunities for young people aged 18-24 to gain hands-on experience and insight into the future of farming.
Six scholarships will be awarded: three in Dairy and, for the first time this year, three examining Regenerative Agriculture.
Both programmes are open to applicants across the UK and will include a 30-day study tour in June and July 2026.
Successful applicants will spend a month travelling with Nuffield alumni, gaining a unique perspective on practical farming, innovation, and leadership.
Among the students who have already taken part in the scheme is Lewis Gibbin, a final year BSc (Hons) Agriculture student at SA¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½.
A committed Young Farmer and member of Holstein Young Breeders, Lewis, from Whitland in Carmarthenshire, has just completed a one-year industry placement with Huddlestone Farmers Ltd.
He recently presented on his experiences of the Scholarship at the Nuffield Farming Conference in Aberdeen, where he discussed the importance of adaptability and challenging convention - as well as his search to discover the ‘why’ behind the many businesses he and his fellow scholars had visited across the UK, Ireland and France on their study tour.
He said: “The connections and people we’ve met on our travels have been invaluable, speaking to people with different perspectives has been really refreshing.
“Better understanding myself has been a key takeaway from this Scholarship and will undoubtedly help me prepare for the future.”
Those interested in undertaking a Scholarship will need to have applied by January 31 to secure their chance to be part of the fully-funded programme, which is designed to inspire, challenge and connect the next generation of agricultural leaders.
